Have you ever thought about writing a business book to promote your business?
As the saying goes ‘Everyone has a book in them’ so wouldn’t it make sense to write about something you are an expert at?
I never considered writing a business book myself until a few months ago. What changed my mind? I read a book by a networking colleague Gavin Meikle called ‘The Presenters Edge’ which gave great tips for presenting in front of an audience.
I had known Gavin for approximately 18 months and knew what he did and respected his work. However, reading his book, took my opinion of him to a much higher level as I got a feel for the way he works and experienced his immense amount of knowledge on the subject. As a result, I would have no hesitation in recommending his services to others and this made me really stop and think
‘WOW – If I wrote a book, so many more people would benefit and have a greater knowledge of what I do’.
Needless to say, writing a book is now in my marketing plan.
For those of you that have never really thought of writing a business book, take a moment to think again. It really can help to propel your brand awareness and establish you as an authority in your industry. It also makes a great marketing tool for your business! After all, you have a wealth of knowledge and that’s why you started your own business! So why not share that knowledge with a much larger audience and gain some great exposure at the same time?
A good business book is not about selling your service, it’s about sharing your knowledge and connecting with people who may not have heard about you before. It’s also an opportunity to build your credibility and put you in a higher league than your competitors and can be used as a platform for other products or services that you provide. The key is knowing who you are writing the book for. Who is your ideal client? What challenges are they facing and how can you help them? This is the starting point for any marketing activity and writing a business book is no different.
If you know what you want to say and who you want to reach out to, but get stuck at the first stage of ‘How would I do it’? then I highly recommend a book called ‘Your Book Is The Hook’ written by my good friend, Karen Williams of Librotas, also known as The Book Mentor. In this book, she takes you through a proven 6 step process to plan, write, publish and market your book.
She has also just published her 5th book ‘Book Marketing Made Simple’ which breaks down the marketing strategy in much more detail, from creating a buzz on social media, carrying out pre-launch interviews, to holding a physical launch party and much more.
Her latest book includes contributions from industry experts covering many areas, including PR & Radio interviews, LinkedIn, Twitter and website tips. There are even a couple of contributions from myself regarding Facebook Advertising! Many of the pre-launch tips can also be used with other product launches, not just for books.
The wealth of knowledge in the pages is clear and the best thing is that it has been broken down into bite-sized chunks that are easy to follow and implement. Backed by downloadable worksheets and checklists to keep you on track, she really has covered everything. I have always said that having a multi-pronged marketing strategy is essential in any activity and this book gives you the whole cutlery set!
The best part is that Karen has been there and tried and tested all of these processes personally and used the same methods to become an Amazon Best Seller herself, so she really knows her stuff.
So, if this article has inspired you to consider writing a book to help launch your business to the next level, I highly recommend buying her books to guide you through the process from start to finish.
I know what you’re thinking… ‘Maybe one day’ but we all know that ‘Maybe’ almost always turns into ‘Never’. Just think of the potential business you could be missing out on. So, get out your notepad now and start thinking of who your target audience is and you never know, with Karen’s help, you could have an Amazon Best Seller yourself!
